Interesting afternoon at the pipe. Having missed out on the midweek wind due to work commitments I was keen to sail today and it kinda delivered. Perfect direction for Hove - westerly with just a hint of south. Launched at 1pm on 4.2/77L fully lit and had a great first hour in some chunky very rideable waves. Soon was overpowered though so took a break to wait for the tide to turn and the wind to drop a bit as was forecast. This it did, but massively more than expected as a brief passing shower killed it completely and veered offshore. Cue mass exodus of all the kites (yay!). I was certain there would be a second bite of the cherry though, so with kit still rigged waited, and waited, and eventually yes back the wind came. Very gusty at first as it switched between on and offshore and after a few failed attempts I was on the brink of quitting, but just in time it locked into the cross-cross-on direction and picked up. Game on! Back upwind to the pipe and wow even better waves than before now on the push, with less chop thanks to the lighter wind. This was the most sideshore I'd sailed Hove with overhead waves and it was bloomin brilliant. Memories of Moulay and Maui as I had to engage some full power laydown bottom turns to commit to the wave then no contorted onshore clew first slowing for whippy snaps off the top thanks to the great direction. Unfortunately it didn't last for long as after kicking out from one peach the wind died again to almost nothing. Fortunately being upwind at the pipe I was able to wobble then swim back in to exactly from where I had launched.

With hindsight should have got out earlier and on 3.7, then changed up to 4.7 and 90L for the second session, but overall a great day. Apart from the mid afternoon shower, sunshine throughout, and all this a mere 10 minutes away from my front door.
